I want a "sports" UMPC

When Tablet PCs first came out, I said I wanted a "sports" model because I wanted to have a waterproof and klutz-proof PC. After several years of using Tablet PCs, I haven't broken one yet.

However, the more I use a UMPC, the more I want a "sports" model. If I'm by a swimming pool, I have to be extremely careful to use it pool-side and not too close to the water. Plus, in the desert there is plenty of sand blowing around. Even if I leave the UMPC outside for a few minutes, I need to carefully wipe it down after a few minutes. It isn't the UMPC's fault -- it's the wind and dust of Arizona.

OtterBox may be my solution. How about a consumer protection case that is like the iPod video protection cases? I think that'd take care of it for me :)

Where to find Microsoft events

Tonight Loren was asking me where he could find a single list of all Microsoft events. The main location is http://www.microsoft.com/events/default.mspx, which lists many of the events. There are also individual event sites, such as the upcoming Microsoft Office Project Conference. You can usually find these promoted on MSDN and in newsletters.

Motion Computing LE1700 Tablet PC

GottaBeMobile posted an InkShow on the newly announced Motion Computing LE1700 Tablet PC. The updated slate has an option for a dual mode digitizer, which would allow you to switch between using a pen to write or using your finger to tap commands.

I really enjoy using slates during my daily work. I used an LE1600 for quite some time and actually just turned the one I had been using in the other day. It's great to see models continue to be updated!

In fact, the LE1600 topped the list as one of my favorite Tablet PCs. (Yes, I have favorites too.) I only had 1 issue with the LE1600 and it was all because I lost the little cover for the dock connector. A couple times when I was rushing, the little clips caught threads on my sweaters and pulled. Because I used the dock regularly I never wanted to replace the cover. I'm the only one I know who has run into this issue. It's probably not a big deal with men's oxfords or polo shirts. Talk about an extremely minor issue - and the benefits of the LE1600 certainly outweighted it!

Go UMPCs!

It's great to see another Microsoft UMPC team member step out and blog about the product. Welcome, Vikram Madan! He's already jumped in full force, as you can see by his clever drawings. Subscribed.
